Gelish The Big Chill Collection Swatches & Color Comparisons

Gelish The Big Chill Collection - swatches by Chickettes.com

Are you ready to see the new winter colors that Gelish recently released?! This is The Big Chill collection, which is comprised of six cool, shimmery colors. I think you’ll be pleased with this collection because all of the shades are pretty unique and the formula is fantastic. Most colors are opaque with just two coats, and they applied perfectly.

The Big Chill
is a LIMITED EDITION collection and will only be available for a limited time.

The Gelish MINI Haute Holiday Collection can be purchased at Sally Beauty Supply online at www.sallybeauty.com, or in retail stores. This collection will be available on shelves from October through December. You can also purchase directly from the Gelish MINI website at www.getgelished.com!

You’ll notice in this post that my nails are much shorter than normal. The cold winter temperatures have done a number on my nails. A couple of them snapped right off, so I’ve been nursing my shorter nails and using lots of cuticle oil to get them back to normal. You’ll see more nail posts from me in the coming weeks! :) Now let’s get to the colors!

The Big Chill is a pale, light grey with a pearly shimmer finish.  The comparison picture below shows that this is the lightest grey in the Gelish line.  It’s very close to Cashmere Kind of Gal, but slightly lighter and it of course has the pearl finish which makes it different.  I really quite like it.

Gelish The Big Chill - swatch by Chickettes.com

Snowflakes & Skyscrapers is a darker grey with a multi-colored shimmer finish.  The description on the press release calls this color “taupe pearl”.  I see the taupe shades in the shimmer, but the base color seems very grey to me.  I can see gold and purple flecks in the shimmer.  This is a pretty unique shade, which you can see in the comparison picture above.

Gelish Snowflakes & Skyscrapers - swatch by Chickettes.com

Call Me Jill Frost is a really lush, dark purple pearl.  When I first saw the color pops I thought this shade would be just like all of the other purples that I have, but it’s totally not.  It has some blue tones to it, while Berry Buttoned Up has some reddish tones to it.  I’m crazy about shimmery purples, so this has won me over!

Gelish Call Me Jill Frost - swatch by Chickettes.com

comp-jill-frost

I’m Snow Angel is a deep brown-ish red with a golden shimmer.  Again, it’s a really unique shade.  I thought this one would be close to Elegant Wish, but you can see in the comparison photo that it has much better coverage and it’s darker and has more brown tones.

Ice Skate, You Skate, We All Skate is a shimmery dark emerald shade.  It’s a very teal-leaning green.  It’s similar to Race You to the Bottom, but it’s a little darker and the shimmer is more subtle.

Gelish Ice Skate, You Skate, We All Skate - swatch by Chickettes.com

My Jewels Keep Me Warm is a coppery pink glitter polish in a pink-tinted sheer base.  This is a really unique polish.  I don’t have anything like it so I compared it with a couple of other Gelish glitters that have the same type of glitter, but they are obviously different colors.  As far as the color goes, it seems to have some orange tints and the shade really reminded me of Cuccio Higher Grounds.  This shade required three coats for opacity, and I had a hard time getting glitter coverage on the tips of my nails which is pretty common.

I actually wore this for Thanksgiving this year and got tons of compliments on it.  I didn’t think I was going to like this, but it was really stunning on my nails.  Love it!

LeChat Perfect Match Moods – Trissie & Island Wonder

LeChat Perfect Match Mood Gel PolishI have a couple more color changing Mood polishes from LeChat Perfect Match today!  These two colors have cream finishes.  I recently posted about two shimmer finish moods, Deep Sea & Starry Night, which you can see here.

To find a local distributor of LeChat Perfect Match, please visit the LeChat website.  I have also provided links below to the products on Amazon.com.  Please note that LeChat products purchased on Amazon may not come in the original packaging.

Trissie shifts from a medium purple when warm, to a medium blue shade when cold.  The blue color is a bit periwinkle-ish, and I really like it.  This polish seemed to be very sensitive to warm and cold and shifted quite a bit and had some really great transitions.

LeChat Perfect Match Mood Gel Polish - Trissie
LeChat Perfect Match Mood Gel Polish - Trissie

Island Wonder shifts from a minty green when warm, to a dusty purple when cold.  I had a hard time getting a good transition picture of this polish – it didn’t want to shift back and forth as much, and was often a bit muddy looking (pretty purple mud of course).  I’ve actually been wearing this color for a few days and it’s usually purple, but it’s winter and I’m a freeze baby so that’s not surprising.  I really like the minty shade and wonder if it would be mostly that color if the temperatures were warmer.  If you look really closely this color also looks a tiny bit grainy when it’s purple.  My camera actually captured this in most of the pictures too.

And here is a picture of the freehand nail art doodles that I painted over Island Wonder.  I recently picked up some Presto nail art gel pots which are supposed to be great for freehand art because they’re super thick and don’t spread/level like regular gel polish.  This was my first time trying it since I thought some art would look cool over the mood polish.  I plan to practice some more and will be sure to post about the art gels at a later date.

Gelish Snowflakes & Skyscrapers Inspired Nail Art

Nail art inspiration can come from any number of places.  This nail art is a literal interpretation of one of the colors that was just released in The Big Chill collection from Gelish & Gelish MINI (see my swatches of the Big Chill Collection here).  Snowflakes & Skyscrapers is a medium grey base with purple and gold shimmer, and the name made me think it would make a great backdrop for a skyline.  On my first attempt at this design I tried doing some freehand drawings, but my fine line skills just aren’t there yet.  Then while I was looking through my stamping plates to find a snowflake design I stumbled upon a skyline image. Score!

Gelish Snowflakes & Skyscrapers literal interpretation by Chickettes.comI started with two coats of Gelish Snowflakes & Skyscrapers as the backdrop.  I then stamped a few snowflakes onto my nails using MoYou Festive Collection Plate #6 and Mundo de Unas white stamping polish.  I applied a thin layer of Gelish TIO, wiped the tacky layer, and then stamped the skyscrapers using Bundle Monster plate BM-414 and Mundo de Unas black polish.  I let the stamping polish dry for a minute before applying another layer of top coat.

The photo below was taken with my lightbox filters on so it dulls the shine of the light so that you can see the details of the stamps a little better.  I really love how this turned out.

Gelish Snowflakes & Skyscrapers literal interpretation by Chickettes.comI also created a second softer snowflake look using some colors from The Big Chill Collection.  The index finger is polished with Snowflakes & Skyscrapers, the middle two fingers have The Big Chill, and the pinky is Call Me Jill Frost (which was also on my thumb).  I did a double stamp on the middle two fingers using two different colors and the Bundle Monster BM-H02 plate.  First I stamped the image with a silvery grey using China Glaze Avalanche, and then I reversed the image and stamped it in white using Mundo de Unas white.

So which one of the two designs would you wear? :)

CND Shellac Swatches – Winter Colors

CND Shellac Winter Colors

I’m working my way through some of my untried colors that are suitable for winter. Today I have a few CND Shellac colors to share with you. I purchased a huge lot of used polishes on eBay a while ago and many of them are CND Shellac. Unfortunately most of the bottles are pretty used up and they’re thick and hard to apply now, but I managed to get some decent swatches out of these ones. They’re all pretty classic colors that are great for the winter months.  The first three swatches are two coats each, and the last color is three coats.

CND Shellac Masquerade is a deep shimmery red.  This color has a very lush feel to it.

CND Shellac Masquerade Swatch by Chickettes.comCND Shellac Rock Royalty is a beautiful shade of purple.  The actual polish color leans a little more red than the color of the bottle, and the polish has a very subtle shimmer to it.

CND Shellac Rock Royalty Swatch by Chickettes.comCND Shellac Asphalt is a classic creamy slate grey.

CND Shellac Asphalt Swatch by Chickettes.comCND Shellac Decadence is a classic creamy red.  This polish has a more sheer, jelly-like consistency compared to the others.  It applied like butter, but I did feel that this one required three coats for full coverage.  If you don’t mind a little visible nail line, two coats would do the trick.

CND Shellac Decadence Swatch by Chickettes.com

I don’t normally buy CND Shellac because of the size, pricing, and UV curing. I do love the quality of CND Shellac polishes because they apply so effortlessly and generally only require two coats for full opacity. However, the bottles are only .25 fl oz and the prices are higher than most other brands, so you do pay for that quality. Also, CND recommends using their UV lamp which is also on the expensive side and UV lamps take 2 minutes to cure each coat. For swatching purposes I did cure each of these colors in my LED lamp to speed things up and they all seemed to set OK for my intended purposes, but I can’t guarantee they will cure 100% with LED.

New Pink Gellac gel polish colors at Chickettes Boutique!

Pink Gellac released five gorgeous new colors today!  All five of these new colors, as well as nine existing colors have been added to Chickettes Boutique and are now available for sale!  If you are planning to purchase any Pink Gellac items from the Boutique for the holidays, please get your orders in by December 18th!  The Boutique will not be shipping orders from December 19-27.

So let’s take a look at these amazing new colors.  All five have great coverage in just two coats, and apply with ease!

Pink Gellac #149 Moulin Rouge is a frosty, shimmery red.  This is a really classic color that can be worn year-round.

Pink Gellac #150 Chestnut Brown available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #151 Halloween Orange is a frosty, shimmery orange.  This orange has some red undertones and is also a great year-round color.

Pink Gellac #151 Halloween Orange available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #152 Naked is a pale lavender-toned neutral with a subtle shimmer.  I conducted a fade test on this color since this shade is known to have issues when exposed to natural light, but I’m happy to report that there was no fading!  I had my fingers crossed the whole time because I really love this color!

Pink Gellac #152 Naked available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #153 Petrol Grey is a frosty metallic grey.  I’m pretty crazy about this color too.  It’s perfect for the fall and winter months.

In addition to the five brand new shades shown above, nine other existing Pink Gellac colors have been added to the Chickettes Boutique.  You may have already seen them because I put them up for pre-order during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale.  They’re all in stock now and will be permanently carried.  I plan to start adding some of the brighter spring and summer colors to the Boutique after the new year.

Pink Gellac #105 Blush Orange is a lovely pale pink with some orange undertones.  This color is on the sheer side and will show some visible nail line.  The swatch below is three coats.

Pink Gellac #113 Intense Taupe available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #114 Royal Brown is a rich, dark, shimmery brown.

Pink Gellac #114 Royal Brown available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #117 Night Blue is a dark, shimmery blue that’s reminiscent of the night sky.

Pink Gellac #117 Night Blue available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #120 Beautiful Black is a creamy stark black.  For best opacity I recommend three coats.

Pink Gellac #120 Beautiful Black available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #125 Bronzy Pink is a frosty metallic bronze shade with pink undertones.

Pink Gellac #125 Bronzy Pink available at Chickettes BoutiquePink Gellac #139 Natural Taupe is a light, neutral taupe shade with a cream finish.

Pink Gellac #139 Natural Taupe available at Chickettes Boutique

And last but not least, the Pink Gellac Primer has also been added to the Boutique. This acid-free primer is ideal for oily or brittle nails with poor adhesion.  If you often have issues with gel polish lifting or chipping prematurely, using a primer will help the polish last longer.  Primer is applied to the cleansed nail just before applying your base coat.  It doesn’t need to be cured, but you should allow 10-15 seconds for it to air dry.  Apply it only in the areas where you have lifting issues (usually the tips).  Using primer can cause your soak-offs to take longer than usual.

Neutrals, Lace & Rhinestones!

Now that my nails are starting to grow out a little I’m feeling more inspired to do some nail art!  Today I went for some neutral shades with some added bling.  And I’m happy to say that I finally recorded the gemstone video I’ve been promising forever.  It will be posted separately once I’ve had time to edit it… but it’s coming!

Neutral, lace & rhinestone nail art by Chickettes.com

Index finger & pinky: These two nails have two coats of Pink Gellac Naked, one of the new shades that was just released.  I used my Harmony Gel Striper brush and a silver nail art paint called Presto Chiarezza to add some silver stripes to the nails.

Middle finger:  I wanted sheer black under my lace design, so I took a drop of Pink Gellac Beautiful Black and mixed it with some top coat to dilute it.  I painted it on with a gel brush and cured.  Then I stamped a delicate floral lace pattern onto the nail after wiping the tacky layer off.  I used Messy Mansion stamping plate MM44, and black Mundo de Unas stamping polish.  Once the stamping polish dried, I applied my gel top coat.

Ring finger:  This finger has two coats of Pink Gellac Beautiful Black.  When I posted about this color the other day I said it requires three coats, but it was actually nice and opaque with just two coats after I mixed it well.  I applied a thick silver stripe down the middle of this nail using the same Presto color gel and a striping brush.  Then I applied two rows of clear crystal rhinestones over the stripe, using Gelish Foundation gel as the “glue” and a thick coat of Gelish Top It Off to seal it all in.

Neutral, lace & rhinestone nail art by Chickettes.comHere’s a shot that I took that shows my thumb, which is done just like the index and pinky but with two stripes instead of one.  In this picture I’m holding the little pot of Presto Chiarezza silver gel.  I’m impressed that the silver was opaque over the black polish in just one coat!

presto

I’m really hoping to do some holiday nail art soon, but I haven’t felt inspired yet. It doesn’t feel like the Christmas season to me since I’m not decorating my house this year. I’ll be in sunny Florida for the holiday! Maybe I need to do some beach-themed holiday nails… ?!

MelodySusie 36w UV Nail Lamp Review

Hey everyone!  I created a video review of the MelodySusie 36w UV nail lamp, which you can watch below.  If you don’t have time to watch the video, I also wrote a short summary below about some of the important features of this lamp.

What’s included in the box:

  • 36-watt UV lamp
  • Five 9-watt UV bulbs (1 extra)
  • Instruction manual
  • 1-year warranty card

melodysusie-uv

This is a very affordable, high quality UV lamp that will cure all UV curable products including gel polish and builder gels.  Here is a quick summary of the features:

  • It has a sliding tray that makes cleaning easier, and is also great for sliding your hand in and out of the lamp without the risk of bumping your nails on the bulbs and messing them up.
  • It has three timer settings; 120 seconds, 180 seconds and continual use (set to off).
  • It has 4 UV bulbs which are easy to install and replace.  I demo installation in the video.
  • It’s portable and can be easily put away or moved around, but it does take up a bit of space and I wouldn’t consider it to be appropriate for travel purposes.
  • It’s made of ABS, which is a very durable material that won’t deform.
  • This lamp is very affordably priced.  It retails for $63.99, but is currently on sale for approximately $25!  That’s a steal for a professional quality lamp.

In the video I also discuss some of the differences between UV and LED lamps:

  • UV lamps are more affordable
  • UV lamps will cure ALL UV curable products including brands like CND Shellac, whereas LED lamps cure a smaller range of products.  Always check your product labels to ensure lamp compatibility and curing times!
  • UV lamps have longer curing times and require 120 seconds to cure most products, where LED lamps will cure most products in 30 seconds.
  • The bulbs in UV lamps need to be replaced periodically, and LED bulbs last the lifetime of the lamp and do not need replacing.

I also perform a demo using a CND Shellac polish, which cures perfectly!  Overall, I think it’s a great quality lamp at an amazing price.  This lamp is available for purchase here at Amazon.com!

Santa Claus Nail Art Using Gel Polish

I finally found a little inspiration for some Christmas nail art! This is my first attempt at Santa and his famous red suit and belt. Gelish Good Gossip made for the perfect sparkly red backdrop for this art, which is all done freehand with gel polish.

Chickettes.com Santa Claus nail art - freehand gel polish art

As mentioned above, I started with Gelish Good Gossip on each nail, only covering a portion of the middle nail for Santa’s hat. Then I used Presto white gel and a striping brush to add the stripes down the middle of each nail, and a dotting tool to add the white to Santa’s hat and beard.  I used Presto black gel to add Santa’s belt, buttons and eyes, and Presto silver (Chiarezza) to draw the belt buckle.  The nose was added as an afterthought using a pink acrylic paint since I realized that his face was missing something!  LOL

Chickettes.com Santa Claus nail art - freehand gel polish artMy sister called me yesterday and told me that my 6 year-old-niece came home from school questioning whether Santa is real because some of her classmates told her he’s not.  Then she asked if she could use my sister’s iPhone for a minute.  She took the phone into the other room and asked Siri if Santa is real.  Apparently Siri only gave her silly answers which just made her angry, and she yelled that Siri is a fake!  LOL  I asked my Siri if Santa is real, and these are some of the responses that I got… thankfully, my niece didn’t get the last response on the list when she asked!

“Let me ask him for you, Andrea”
“Really, Andrea. You sleigh me.”
“Well, those cookies don’t eat themselves.”
“Let’s just say I’m not the only one who knows if you’ve been good or bad.”
“Be careful, Andrea. You don’t want to end up on the Naughty List.”
“I’m going to pretend you didn’t ask that. I don’t want you to get a lump of coal this year.”
“He’s as real as I am, Andrea.”

VIDEO: How to Apply Gemstones & Rhinestones with Gel Polish

As promised, here is the video tutorial on how to apply gemstones & rhinestones using gel polish! Click here to read more about the nail art I’m wearing in the video.

I’ve mentioned many times in my nail art posts that I like to use Gelish Foundation as the “glue” to hold my gems, and I also use a little extra around the base of the gems to reinforce them before top coating.

Below is a list of all of the products that are mentioned in the video:

Blue and White Gradient Nails with Snowflakes

Today’s post is just a quickie nail art design that I did this week.  I wanted to do a blue and white gradient with white snowflakes over top.  It didn’t turn out quite as elegant as I had imagined in my head due to the stamping image that I selected, which is a winter sweater snowflake pattern.  It looks nice, but I would like to try this again with a different snowflake pattern or maybe some freehand snowflakes.

I started with two coats of Gelish Arctic Freeze, and then burnished two pigment powders into the tacky layer to create the gradient effect (INK Masquerade & CND Cerulean Blue). Watch this video to learn how to create gradients and some other cool effects using pigments/additives.  I wish I would’ve thought to take a picture of the gradient before I applied the stamp, because it was really pretty on its own.

I applied a thin layer of top coat over my gradient, wiped the tacky layer and then stamped the snowflake pattern onto my nails using Mundo de Unas white stamping polish and an image from the MoYou Festive 06 plate.

Simple Gold Glitter Nails for Christmas

This is what I’m wearing on my nails this Christmas! I decided to keep it simple and go with gold glitter nails using Pink Gellac Luxury Gold, and then I drew a freehand Christmas tree with a star on my ring finger nail.  I drew the tree with a Wistonia #00 nail art brush and a Presto gel called Fresco.  I didn’t have a good yellow art gel for the star, so I used my Mundo de Unas stamping polish.

I’m spending the holiday on the beach with my family this year.  It’ll be my first time celebrating Christmas somewhere warm, and with no snow… kinda surreal!
Chickettes.com Gold Glitter Christmas NailsThis is another simple mani that I was wearing not long ago that also used Pink Gellac Luxury Gold.  This is two coats of Pink Gellac Chique Red with a Luxury Gold glitter gradient… simple elegance!

Gelish Limited Edition Holiday Colors from 2013

I just got home from a fabulous family vacation at Reddington Beach in Florida for Christmas!  Ahhhhh, I feel refreshed and ready to kick off the new year!  I intended to blog while I was away, but once I got there I really just wanted to relax and take a true vacation and not worry about anything blog or work-related… so that’s what I did! (The Christmas post that went up last week was written and scheduled before I left.)

Today I have a few swatches from limited edition Gelish collections that were released LAST year for the holidays. I realized as I was looking at my stash spreadsheet that I never swatched these colors on my nails, and for the sake of swatching ALL of the Gelish colors I had to do them. LOL I wrote about these colors last year along with a few comparison photos (see that post here).

Since these colors are from last year, I don’t know what the availability is.  I found all three on Amazon and have linked to the listings below.

This is Gelish Kick Off the New Year from the Year of the Horse Collection.  It’s a really gorgeous holographic glitter polish that has great coverage all on its own.  The swatch below is two coats with no base color.  It reminds me very much of LeChat Hologram Diamond in terms of coverage and sparkle.  Kick Off the New Year has holo glitters of all different shapes and sizes, including some bar glitters.  This is a really fabulous glitter polish for New Years Eve or a festive party!

Gelish Kick Off the New Year swatch by Chickettes.comRed-y For the Festival is also from the Year of the Horse Collection.  It’s a classic red cream with great coverage in just two coats.

Gelish Red-y For the Festival swatch by Chickettes.comAnd lastly, this is Dancer, Prancer, & Cranberry Vixen from the 2013 Winter Reds Collection.  It’s a dark reddish purple cream, and is also opaque in just two coats.  The other color in this collection was With His Red so Bright, which you can see and read about here.

2014 Year In Review and 2015 Goals

2014-year-in-reviewTime flies when you’re having fun!  It’s hard to believe that another year has gone by already.  I feel so fortunate to have had such an amazing year, and am hoping that 2015 will be just as rewarding!  On January 1st I posted some blogging goals for 2014, and most of them were accomplished.  I tend to stay on track better when I set goals, so I’m going to do that again this year.

Accomplishments in 2014:

  • Attended the Cosmoprof trade show in Las Vegas as a member of the press.  I was fortunate to make friends with several other nail bloggers, did lots of networking and made connections with many brands, learned about new products and lines, and it was just an amazing experience overall.
  • Entered into a collaboration with Pink Gellac and launched the Chickettes Boutique with the Holiday Sparkle Collection, and have since added several more colors and products.
  • Finished swatching all of the colors in the Gelish line that are available in the U.S. (see here)
  • Hosted several awesome giveaways!  Sponsors included Gloss48, DIY Hard Nails, NailMates, Jord, Gelish MINI, Couture Gel Nail Polish, Lacqit, Messy Mansion, Esther’s Nail Center and Artsyfartsy Crafts.
  • Was published in print!  A group photo of several bloggers that attended a party while at Cosmoprof was published in Nail It! and NAILPRO magazines.  I was also interviewed for an “I Can’t Live Without” article for Nail It! Magazine, which has just been published in the new January/February 2015 edition!
  • Became self-empolyed! I quit my day job of 15 years in order to focus more on blogging and my web business!  It was the best decision ever.
  • Enrolled at the Brown Aveda Institute!

Goals for 2015:

  • Graduate from the nail program at the Brown Aveda Institute and get licensed.  My classes begin in just a few weeks, and I should be done sometime in June.  I can’t wait!
  • Expand the Chickettes Boutique with more product offerings and further develop my sales and marketing skills.
  • Attend Cosmoprof again and take better notes and more photos!
  • Practice and improve my freehand art skills.
  • Swatch all of the untried polishes on my shelf.
  • Make more YouTube videos.
  • Upgrade and redesign the blog layout.

Favorite Nail Art of 2014:

Revel Nail Gel Polish Swatches

revel-swatch-collage

I have some swatches of Revel Nail gel polish today. Revel is a relatively new line of gel polish and other nail products that launched in 2014. I conducted a full review and posted a few swatches of the gel polish back in September (see that post here). In short, it’s a great quality brand with really affordable prices! I decided to swatch a few more colors that are appropriate for the season.   All of these colors had great coverage in just two coats!

Supernova is a gorgeous dark purple shimmer.  The Revel line also has another shimmery purple that’s just a few shades lighter called Queen.  I swatched that color previously – but if Supernova is too dark for you, check out that shade!  I love them both but actually prefer this darker purple.

Carouse is a medium purple cream, and is a great year-round color.

Deeva is a vampy burgundy red cream.  Reds can also be worn year-round, but I prefer darker reds like this one for fall and winter.

Bonfire is a really lovely coral cream.  This is another shade that could be worn year-round.

Incline is a unique shimmer polish that’s hard to describe… it’s sort of a blackened olive with golden tones.  This is a really shade for the colder months.

revel-incline

Solid is a frosty gold shimmer that leans a bit yellow.  This shade will show some brushstrokes if not applied carefully from base to tip.

All-Nighter is a dark blue cream.  This shade is a little muted with some grey-ish undertones, and is pretty unique.

Gelish Swatch Do-Overs: Starburst & Cashmere Kind of Gal

How about a couple of do-overs for the new year?!  When I started swatching Gelish almost 3 years ago I had a highly filtered lighting setup which made the polishes appear to have a matte finish.  We all know that gel polish is super shiny, so that just wasn’t cutting it.  Seven or eight months ago I added a direct light to the setup and changed the way the photos are cropped, and now you can see that high-gloss shine. Some days when I look at my Gelish swatch gallery I wish I could go back and do them all over again… but then I remember how long it took. LOL  These two colors aren’t new, but I thought they deserved a do-over since they each had a strange 3-finger pose previously. Who knows, maybe over time I’ll re-do some of the other swatches too.

Starburst was one of the very first gel polish colors that I purchased.  I started off with about 10 colors, and wore this one frequently.  I haven’t used it in a long time and had forgotten how pretty it is!  It’s a medium-to-dark purple with a shimmer finish and is opaque in 2-3 coats.

2012 Flashback!  See my original Starburst swatches here… FYI, I didn’t have the same application issues this time. I think the bottle just needed a good shake!

Gelish Starburst swatch by Chickettes.comCashmere Kind of Gal is a light grey cream that was released in the 2012 House of Gelish Collection.  When I first got this polish it had some issues with wrinkling due to the thickness of the formula.  I added a few drops of gel polish thinner to the bottle and it applies very well now.  This swatch is two coats.

2012 Flashback!  See my original Cashmere Kind of Gal swatches here…

Tip:  Gel polish thinner is great for thinning out polishes with thicker formulas like this one, or to restore older gel polishes that have thickened.  The shelf life of gel polish is said to be 18-24 months, but I have many polishes in my stash that are much older and are still in great condition.  Store the bottles out of direct sunlight, in a moderate temperature (avoid extreme hot or cold temps), and thin them if needed and they should last a good long while!

Gel polish glitter gradient using Pink Gellac Blush Orange and Fabulous Silver

I created a short video that shows how to create a glitter gradient using a glitter gel polish. Glitter gradients are super easy to do if you have the right polish. In this video I started with a base of Pink Gellac Blush Orange and applied a silver gradient using Pink Gellac Fabulous Silver. Fabulous Silver and Luxury Gold are both perfect dense glitter polishes to use with this technique!

Glitter gradients can also be done using gel polish and loose glitter. See my video on that technique here.

Below is another glitter gradient that I did a few weeks ago using the same technique. The polishes used in this manicure are Pink Gellac Chique Red and Luxury Gold.

LeChat Rosemantic – The First Scented Mood Polish (Limited Edition)

LeChat Rosemantic Limited Edition Scented Mood Polish - Chickettes.comHave you seen or heard about LeChat’s newest product?  Rosemantic is a brand new limited edition SCENTED mood gel polish!  It smells like roses AND changes colors!  The rose scent is pretty strong when the polish is first applied.  It’s stronger before the top coat is applied.  I recommend using a top coat for the best long-lasting results (without a top coat Rosemantic has a matte finish).  Even with a top coat applied, the rose scent comes through.  The scent starts to fade a little after a few days, but the swatch sticks that I prepared a couple weeks ago still have a hint of rose scent.  And as with all Perfect Match gel polishes, it also comes with a matching nail lacquer.

Rosemantic is a bright bubble gum pink when warm, and classic rose red when cold.  The collage below shows the colors when warm, cold and during transition.  The color is pretty opaque in two coats, but I applied three coats for these swatches.

LeChat Rosemantic Limited Edition Scented Mood Polish - Chickettes.comIt’s possible that this color might be a fader.  The warm color cures to a completely different color when cured in a UV lamp vs an LED lamp.  When cured in a UV lamp the warm color is more of a peachy shade.  The image below shows comparisons on swatch sticks of Rosemantic cured in UV vs LED.  You can see that the cold color is still the same, but the warm colors are vastly different.  I tried to conduct a fade test on the polish that was cured in LED, but it’s been very cold and dark here with little sunlight.  My test was inconclusive.

I personally like the colors both ways, but be aware of this before deciding what type of lamp to use.

Here is a closer look at my transition shot.  It’s a really pretty color combination and is perfect for the upcoming romantic season!

LeChat Rosemantic Limited Edition Scented Mood Polish - Chickettes.comI decided to add a stamped design over Rosemantic to get in the mood for Valentine’s Day.  I really wanted to use a rose image to stick with the theme, but my rose image wouldn’t pick up for the life of me.  I ended up choosing this whimsical heart and swirls design from the Bundle Monster plate BM-612.  I used a light pink stamping polish from Mundo de Unas.
